Laser and Rail for Smith & Wesson Sigma :

Any weapon system you decide to carry for self defense should meet some basic defense requirements, it should be reliable, accurate and have adequate fire power. The Sigma in 9mm has 16 rounds in the clip unless you plan on a small war that should be more than enough rounds for a self defense situation. Reliability is not an issue with the Sigma it is a rugged work horse that has been test with over 10,000 rounds, there are no external safeties to complicate things at the time of combat add to the fact that is used in the Iraq war by the Iraq military as their standard side arm attest to it's reliability.

On accuracy the Sigma is dead on in the hands of the right shooter it is deadly accurate. However shooting at a piece of static paper at the range is relatively easy and with enough practice anyone can master shooting their Sigma this way. Shooting under a stressful situation however is a totally different situation and you can rest assure your aim will not be as great when you are shooting at a moving target or worse yet being shot at. The Sigma comes standard with rear and front white dot sights, which works great in the day when you have time to line up your target.

However if you are in a gun fight and depending on how skilled your attacker is with their pistol or worst yet if they have rifle or carbine and you stick your head up or out to " acquire " your target you may be at risk with the standard gun sights on any pistol as they will take some time to sight in on your target.

Take a page from the SWAT book:

Enter the speed and efficiency of the Laser sight. Law Enforcement Tactical Teams the world over like S.W.A.T, RMP (Royal Military Police ) and Emergency Task Force (TPS) all deal with high risk situations like gun calls, hostage taking, barricaded persons, emotionally disturbed persons, high risk arrests and warrant service, and protection details. These units all rely on Laser Sights for quick target acquisition and take down of perps. Now ask yourself this question, if these guys that use their weapons daily in hostile situations use laser sights, why shouldn't you ?

What comes in the Box:

Acquiring a Laser Sight for your Sigma is no doubt a smart move. The Laser pictured above is attached to the Sigma via the 1913 MIL-STD Rail adapter. The Laser features a right to left on / off switch that when mounted can be tapped on and off in a standard two hand shooting grip with your index finders. It comes with two allen keys one for mounting and adjusting the position of the laser bracket and another for adjusting the sight. The Laser is powered by 3 watch sized batteries (LR-44) and has an output of 5MW more than sufficient for the typical self defense shooting distance.

Laser Sight Performance:

Performance of this Laser unit is great. Mounting it on the Sigma right out the box without adjusting the sight I was able to do some impressive shooting at 15 yards, hitting the x on my target center mass and making a small triangle in the neck area as you can see from the pics below:

Everyday Carry :

Most civilians get real excited about the concept of right fitting their Pistol with a Laser Sight. However the only Lasers that seem to fit in regular holsters for everyday carry are the grip based lasers but they run in the neighborhood of $300 + not very practical for a Sigma as those lasers cost about as much as the gun. The Laser and Rail Combo above run about $70 bucks and you can also acquire a IWB (In the Waist Band ) Holster that fits the combo perfectly for around $50. Which is a lot more practical for the Sigma. The Holster is made from Kydex a unique type of polymer which makes it snag free on the draw and re-holstering of the pistol with the laser attached. The Holster is water proof and shock resistant and unlike leather holsters will not create moisture which damages the finish of your Sigma.

Practise makes perfect:

With a Laser a great shooter can become and excellent one and an ok shooter can be great. Practice with your new laser on time proven shooting techniques like the double tap, tri-star (picture above) and the mozambique.
